Our Time. Our Way. Our Say.

Kim Gruenenfelder for Congress

Why Kim Gruenenfelder?

I am not running against our incumbent, I am running to change a broken system. In this country, on a national level, we as voters only have control over 4 votes: our congressman, 2 senators, and the president. We never get to vote on issues. That makes a lot of us feel powerless over the system, which many believe is the reason for such lower voter turnout, particularly during non Presidential election years. The system also forces most of us to either be blue or red: with her or with him. I believe most of us are purple: we have differing opinions on a host of issues. I would like to introduce a Federal Amendment that would allow voters to vote on any issue affecting our country and our families, but particularly the “hot button” issues: Immigration, Marijuana Legalization, Healthcare, Abortion, Gun Regulations, Climate Change Regulations, Taxes, Social Security and Medicare, the Electoral College, etc.

When our founding fathers set up voting in our country, they deliberately made sure that only white male property owners could vote for representatives, and that the representatives could choose not to represent their constituents on the subjects they care about. We need to change that. Now.  -KG

Published Author Kim Gruenenfelder Announces Candidacy for Congress in the 28th District

Echo Park - Five time published author, Kim Gruenenfelder, announced her intention to run for the United States Congress as a Democrat in California’s 28th District.

A Californian for most of her life, Kim attended the University of California, Los Angeles at the young age of sixteen. Upon graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in History, Gruenenfelder began a career in television on the popular game show Jeopardy!, using her historical knowledge and skills to rise quickly from Production Assistant to Researcher.

A writer of women’s fiction published by St. Martin’s Press, Kim has had the opportunity to speak with many of the constituents of the 28th district via her book tours, events and social media platforms.

As a wife and a mother, she is passionate about women’s health issues, rights for dreamers, quality education for all, gun control regulation, and climate change advancement. What differentiates Kim from other local candidates is her strong desire to introduce an initiative based on true democratic principles.

Gruenenfelder’s True Democracy Initiative is an amendment to the Constitution of the United States that would allow direct national voting on a number of critical issues. Kim believes that as voters, we only have control over four votes: our Congressman, our two Senators and our President. She would like to see a system in which voters have a direct say in the day to day issues that affect them most. This initiative would allow individuals to cast ballots every four years on issues that directly affect our citizens and families, and avoid decisions being made by self-serving powerful Lobbyists that operate within Washington.

“I don’t see myself as running against my incumbent so much as running for a change to a system that is clearly broken.”

Primary Election day for the 28th District of California is Tuesday, June 5, 2018.
